Introduction to the NFL
The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league that consists of 32 teams. These teams are divided evenly into two conferences: the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). Each conference is further divided into four divisions: East, West, North, and South. The NFL is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and has a rich history, having been founded in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association before renaming itself the NFL in 1922.
Team Structure and Organization
Every NFL team has a roster capped at 53 players, with additional slots for practice squad members. Each team operates under a salary cap, which is a limit on the amount of money teams can spend on player salaries, promoting a level playing field across the league. Team personnel typically consist of players, coaching staff, medical staff, and front-office executives.
