History and Tradition
Texas A&M University’s football program is steeped in rich history and tradition, dating back to its inception in 1894. Known for its passionate fan base, the Aggies’ football culture is integral to the university’s identity. One of the most iconic traditions is the “12th Man,” a nod to the student section’s readiness to support the team, symbolizing their role as the 12th player on the field. This tradition originated in a 1922 football game when student E. King Gill was called from the stands to suit up due to a shortage of healthy players.
Kyle Field
Kyle Field, the home stadium of the Aggies, is one of the most daunting environments for visiting teams. Located in College Station, Texas, and seating over 102,733 fans, it is the fourth-largest stadium in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and ranks among the most intimidating venues in college football. The stadium atmosphere is electric, with legions of maroon-clad fans participating in choreographed “yells” led by Yell Leaders, another unique tradition that sets Texas A&M apart.
