The NBA’s 2024 3-Point Contest once again showcased the league’s most prolific long-range shooters, bringing thrilling performances and nail-biting moments to basketball fans around the world. As one of the marquee events during the NBA All-Star Weekend, the contest has a rich history of featuring some of the greatest shooters in the history of the sport. This year’s competition did not disappoint, with established stars and emerging talents sharing the spotlight.
# The Format
The 3-Point Contest follows a standardized format that tests participants’ accuracy, speed, and stamina. Contestants have sixty seconds to shoot as many three-pointers as possible from five racks positioned around the three-point arc. Each rack contains four regular basketballs worth one point each and one “money ball” worth two points. In total, players can achieve a maximum score of 34 points per round, pushing them to balance precision with rapid shot-taking.
The event comprises two rounds: the preliminary round and the final round. The scores from the preliminary round determine the top three shooters who advance to the finals. In the final round, scores reset, and the highest scorer is crowned the champion.
